A road to take – Acrylic on Canvas (67.5 x 99 cm)
There’s a specific kind of peace found on the gravel roads around Gouritsmond. This piece is about that pull toward home—that moment the dust settles and you find shade under the heavy limbs of an old Bluegum tree.
I wanted to capture the contrast of the Western Cape: the wild, resilient Fynbos and Proteas growing alongside the soft, layered faces of Dahlias. It’s a mix of the garden and the veld, tied together by a winding yellow track that pulls you deep into the valley.
The sky isn’t just blue; it’s a moving swirl of turquoise with hints of soft peach, reflecting the wind and the light you only get near the coast. I painted this for anyone who knows the feeling of a long drive ending in a quiet, sun-drenched sanctuary.
